watertext

Look at this fantastic tutorial provided by abduzeedo. It shows how to create an amazing and realistic water text using:

Adobe Illustrator - to write the text
Cinema 4D - to move in a 3D enviroment that will give a nice effect
Photoshop - to place some real water photos and give a very realistic feeling to the image

Of course you can use other 3D apps (for example 3D Studio MAX - not available for mac).
The result is great and can be applied for different purposes!

Drawing vs Designer

Do you think drawing is essential to be a great graphic designer?

logo sketches

The way design is actually executed seems to be a crucial point of this discussion.

Some of the designers can draw and some can’t. People use the skills they have and you can definitely make your way as a designer without strong drawing skills. Although this, if you have those skills it can give you extra flexibility, for example matching colors, drawing a sketch when an idea comes out, developing a concept that is in your mind but not on the paper…

Drawing is important but it can’t be the only thing needed to be a great designer.
Communication and design skills are foundamental as well and creativity and imagination surely can’t miss.

screenshot of unprofound.com

Jim started this site in 2001 after having trouble finding quality, public domain photos online to use in his designs.  He bought a camera and bothered his photographer friends until he had a grasp on taking photos. He managed to had a collection of photos going to waste so he decided to put them online for other people to use with no strings attached.

It’s now 2009, and Unprofound has grown into a global collaboration of photographers. Hopefully, it will grow into a useful resource for designers everywhere.

The real nice thing it is 100% non-profit!! and that’s we like it! no ads there!
