“I”. A “portrait” of myself. What do I see when I stand in front of a mirror? How do I see myself? How do others see me? What image would best represent me? What image would best represent my personal, social or political identity, my inspirations, my habits or my travels?

All of the above are just a few of the many ways one can approach this year’s competition theme “I”.

banana

I’d like to talk you about a very interesting and nice article published by Steve Sammartino on his blog: startupblog.wordpress.com
This post, entitled “best packaging ever”, identifies the banana peel just as the best packaging of its content … the banana!
If you read below the reasons behind this, you will understand how nature has much to teach us. It is perhaps the main source of inspiration. What do you think?

Here are some reasons:
  • Easy opening, but only when it’s ripe
  • Consume straight from packaging
  • Built in ‘used by date’ indicator – packaging changes color – so awesome.
  • Gives off product fragrance
  • Ship in packaging with mutlipack nesting design

applerona

This is certainly one of the most clever advertising I’ve seen lately.
Apple needs no introduction; Rona is a bricolage/DIY franchise centre which has its own stores primarily in Canada.
This advertisement is installed in one of the central streets of Montreal, Quebec.
The line reads: “Nous recuperons les restes de peinture.” which translates to: “We collect leftover paint.”

In an advertisement of this nature we can observe different marketing strategies, which contribute, together, to reinforce the message and to boost publicity itself.
Rona certainly exploits in its favor the Apple brand and with the phrase “We collect leftover paint” , for a moment, we think that those of Apple are wasters while Rona has a greater sensitivity and that they don’t throw anything away. Nearly a message of awareness to recycling that does not put Apple in a bad light, but it certainly puts in a good light Rona!

summerfestivals2009

In the following post we would like to analyze logos and graphics used for promoting the 2009 summer festivals around the globe.
Summer festivals require a great organization from a logistical point of view, but certainly also in terms of communication.
A coordinated communication will highlight the promotion of the festival, especially when the artists taking part in the event are worldwide known.
It’s interesting to analyze how the genre of music played at these festivals is reflected on the characteristics of the graphics. An event like the Sonar of Barcelona, dedicated to electronic music, is translated in the minimalism of its logo and the simplicity of its typography.
It is instead very different the graphic choice of the Isle of White Festival. A historic festival addressed toward the rock music. These characteristics surely can be found in the event’s logo: vintage, naif, in a world… retro.
Also observe the use of the green that we find in different graphics.
